Gustavo Garcia

Gustavo Garcia is a printmaker, photographer, and videographer. In each discipline he has completed a variety of projects ranging from mini-documentaries to exhibitions. Born in Michoacán, Mexico, he received his BFA in printmaking with an art education concentration from Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University, Philadelphia, in 2013. He attended Temple University Rome from 2010 to 2011 with a concentration in printmaking and art history.

Garcia has collaborated with numerous artists as a master printer at Brandywine Workshop and Archives, Philadelphia, through its residency program. Among artists with whom he has collaborated are El Anatsui, Sonya Clark, Doris Nogueira-Rogers, Odili Donald Odita, Robert Pruitt, Robert Roesch, Louis Delsarte, Danny Alvarez, Jose Ortiz-Pagan, Marta Sanchez, Sedrick Huckaby, Howardena Pindell, Barbara Chase-Riboud, Ayanah Moor, and Keith Morrison.

As an official photographer, Garcia covered an immigration immersion project on the United States-Mexico border for Gettysburg College. He was assigned to cover the Papal Visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia in 2015 with exclusive access from the World Meeting of Families. He has worked on assignments for a number of organizations including the Human Rights Campaign, PHL Diversity, and Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.

As a videographer, Garcia worked to produce the mini-documentary Operating Outside the Lines, which chronicles the 40-year history of Brandywine Workshop and Archives. He has also worked on projects with the Knight Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and—in Philadelphia—The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, The Food Trust, New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia, and Fleisher Art Memorial, among others.
