Arturo Urista

Arturo Urista grew up in the City Terrace area of East Los Angeles, CA. He earned an associate degree in architectural drafting from Don Bosco Technical Institute, Rosemead, CA, and a BA in art, design, and sociology and an MA in sociology from California State University, Los Angeles.

Urista worked as director of Galeria Otra Vez, Los Angeles, for six years, organizing exhibitions and festivals and creating a database for the gallery’s mailing list. While continuing his education at California State University, he continued both his production of artwork and his community involvement.

He has exhibited his work at institutions including Self Help Graphics and Galería Otra Vez, Los Angeles; Galeria Sin Fronteras, Austin, TX; Museo Nacional de las Culturas, Mexico City, Mexico; and Casa de La Raza, Santa Barbara, California.
