Visual artist and scholar Clarissa Sligh was born in Washington, DC. She earned a BS in mathematics and a BFA in visual arts from Hampton University, VA; an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; and an MFA in visual arts from Howard University, Washington, DC. In 1988, she co-founded Coast to Coast: A Women of Color National Artists’ Project, which focused on promoting works by women of color. Sligh lives and works in Asheville, NC.
