Deborah Willis

Deborah Willis, PhD, is a photographer, curator, museum consultant, and scholar born in Philadelphia. She earned a BFA in photography from Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts); an MFA in photography from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY; an MA in art history and museum studies from the City College of New York; and a doctorate in cultural studies from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA.

Willis is the recipient of a 2000 MacArthur Fellowship (the "Genius Grant") and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her works can be found in the collections of institutions including the William Benton Museum of Art, Storrs, CT; University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa; Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; and Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington.

Willis is professor and chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
