Jamal Cyrus

A painter and sculptor from Houston, TX, Jamal Cyrus earned his BFA from the University of Houston in 2004 and his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. In 2005 he attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, ME.

Cyrus has exhibited widely, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; Studio Museum in Harlem and the New Museum, New York City; and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. His work was included in Day for Night, the 2006 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York City.

Cyrus has received the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, Artadia Houston Award, and Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship. Cyrus lives and works in Houston, TX.
