Nashormeh Lindo

Philadelphia-born artist Nashormeh Lindo earned her BA in art from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and an MS in education from the Bank Street College Graduate School of Education’s Museum Leadership Program, New York City. She works as both a practicing visual artist and as an educator/cultural worker.

An independent museum consultant and curator, Lindo enjoys lecturing and writing on visual culture as it pertains to the cultural and sociopolitical history of African Americans and their contributions to global culture. She is particularly interested in the artistic, photographic, musical, and literary heritage of Black Americans.

Lindo's professional experience includes teaching children and adults, program planning, curriculum development, and educational training. In this capacity, she has worked with institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia; Baltimore Museum of Art; Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of the City of New York, Children’s Museum of Manhattan, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, and New York Public Library, where she was Manager of Educational Programs; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and Oakland Museum of California.

As an artist-curator, Lindo has designed and painted public murals, curated exhibitions at the Sargent Johnson Gallery, San Francisco, and organized art exhibitions and workshops. She has taught African American art history at City College of San Francisco and has served multiple terms as chair of the California Arts Council.
