Kakyoung Lee

South Korean artist Kakyoung Lee received her BFA and MFA from Hongik University, Seoul, as well as an MFA from State University of New York, Purchase.

Lee has exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, The Drawing Center, and Queens Museum, New York City; Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY; Kunsthalle Bremen, Germany; Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams; Museum of Contemporary Art, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Museum Folkwang, Essen, Germany; Galerie Oqbo, Berlin, Germany; and Seoul Arts Center, Korea.

Lee has held residencies at Art Omi, Ghent, New York; International Studio & Curatorial Program, Brooklyn; Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, NY; Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation (now Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program), Brooklyn; MacDowell, Peterborough, NH; and Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY. She has received grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and AHL Foundation, a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, and the Korea Arts Foundation of America award. Lee was the 2017 recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letter Purchase Award.

Lee’s works are in the collections of the Asia Society and Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City; McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, TX; Cleveland Museum of Art, OH; Jeju 4.3 Peace Park, South Korea; and the Library of Congress, Washington, DC, among others. She lives in New York City.
