About the Work

From the Artist

Txai is a word from a Brazilian native group in the Amazon region that basically means "friend." Its translation or interpretation is as follows: "half of me is in you and half of you is in me, thus we are more than friends but more like brothers/sisters."

The overarching fan shapes represent the aspect of each of us having a relationship to end dependency upon each other. We each are responsible for the well-being of ourselves. The three heads represent the formation of the triangle or pyramid, one of the most ancient architectural forms of spiritual and metaphysical significance. It may also be understood as the fulcrum from which we can transport or move forward that which is important to the betterment of humankind. The fan shape is an element I have been using in many ways in my work for the last fifteen or so years. It represents for me a universal and aesthetic concept. It is symbolic and encourages one toward the meditation of spiritual and elemental concepts of daily living.
