Barkley Hendricks Sacrifice of the Watermelon Virgin or Shirt off Her Back is a 1987 offset lithographic print. The image depicts a woman sitting with her ankles together, atop a chess board, bound by a chain at the base of her heel. She is dressed in black laced socks and shoes made from watermelons with a pawn playing piece on each point. Her feet are posed in the direction of a male figure, who's mouth hangs open revealing two sharp fangs. He faces her in a foreboding and ominous way. A collection of plants fills up the space behind them. An indigo purple provides background for the circularly posed scene.
